Horizon Christian 69, Praise Academy 46

Daniel Durnwald scored 30 points as the Warriors cruised to a victory Monday.

Durnwald shot 8-for-10 for the game and was helped by going 12 of 14 at the free-throw line.

Pable Marrero added 16 points for Horizon, while Andrew Leonard scored 10.

Horizon led just 27-25 at halftime but pulled away in the fourth quarter.

North wins Coal Mountain Classic

North Forsyth wrestling was so dominant at its own Coal Mountain Classic this past Saturday that the Raiders had multiple placers in the same weight class.

The Raiders had 15 placers in all, including seven champions, to win the event with 243 team points, ahead of second-place Forsyth Central (137.5).

North’s individual champions were Paul Watkins (120 pounds), Tate Bissell (126), Spencer Dooley (132), Riley Wheeler (145), Conner Carroll (170), Andy Leggett (185) and Brantley Little (195).

It was Carroll who had to face a teammate, Alex Keller, in the finals at 170. Little had also company at 195, as teammate Samuel Ridings placed third.

North had runner-up finishes from Elias Koehler (106), Walid Abdullahi (113), Nathan Grimes (152), Bradley Thomas (160), while Cade Jensen (220) and Isaac Ridings (285) placed fourth.

Central had two individual champions: Steven Messer (106) and Sebastian Legarra (220). Parker Evans (126), Hunter Kurowski (132), Keaton Platzke (182) and Jake Gardner (285) each finished runner-up, while Aaron Roberts (145) placed third.

West finished fourth out of the 10 teams who participated with 107.5 points, led by Hunter Jolly who placed first at 285. Hayden Cook (138) placed second, while Cam Westray (106), Tyler Bunten (160), Jackson Wells (170) and Andrew Pilgrim (220) each placed third.

Lambert, South head to Tennessee

CHATTANOOGA – Forsyth County had two wrestlers place at the competitive McCallie Invitational this past Saturday in Tennessee.

Lambert’s Cole Burke placed fifth at 160 pounds, while South Forsyth’s Jackson Baraff placed fifth at 138.

The Longhorns also had strong showings from Gabe Hernandez (126) and Ethan Young (195), while the War Eagles got contributions from AJ Riner (113), Sam Ranta (132), Charlie Ranta (145), Mitchell Frankel (182) and Ian Hunt (195).
